Angel Reese has always proved she’s more than just a basketball player

So unsurprisingly, after she and the Chicago Sky took down the Brazil National Team on Friday night, Reese elected to skip Monday’s practice session to travel to New York for the 2025 Met Gala.

The Gala is an annual fashion event and aims to raise money for the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

It isn’t the first time Reese has balanced the Met Gala with her Chicago Sky duties.

Last year, she attended the event and then played less than 24 hours later against the New York Liberty.

During the Sky‘s practice and media availability on Monday, new Chicago head coach Tyler Marsh spoke on Reese’s decision to miss practice for the event.

“She’s handled it great,” Marsh said with nothing but praise for the 23-year-old.

“She puts in a ton of work in the offseason and during the season. She communicated with her teammates that she’ll be there.

“We, as an organization, are in support of everyone on and off the court.”

The Sky forward will also have to likely gear up for action in less than 24 hours again, as Chicago takes on the Minnesota Lynx on Tuesday in their latest preseason action.

This year’s event was particularly important to Reese as she was part of the Met Gala committee.

The WNBA star joined Olympic track star Sha’Carri Richardson and seven-time gold-medalist Simone Biles on the celeb-filled panel.

NBA great LeBron James took the role as honorary chair and was joined by Formula 1 star Lewis Hamilton as one of the four co-chairs.

The committee is tasked with assisting the Gala in raising money for the Museum.

James was not present on the night after citing an MCL injury he is suffering from after the Lakers were dumped out of the playoffs in the first round.

His wife, Savannah James, attended the event in his place for this year’s event, which carried the theme “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” with Reese wearing Thom Browne.

Reese wasn’t the only WNBA star to attend the event, as Breanna Stewart, Sabrina Ionescu, and Jonquel Jones were also present.

Other sports stars included Flau’jae Johnson, Dwyane Wade, Saquon Barkley, Serena and Venus Williams, Joe Burrow, Justin Jefferson and Jalen Hurts also made an appearance.

After raising $26 million last year, The Met Gala raised over $31 million this year.

And it’s no surprise when considering the cost of even attending the event.

An individual ticket goes for around $75,000 (£56,000), while a 10-seat table starts at $350,000.
