Sheryl Swoopes Facing Sudden Backlash After Old Caitlin Clark Tweet Resurfaces.
WNBA legend Sheryl Swoopes has made headlines of late for all the wrong reasons. The Hall of Famer has taken a lot of flack for being a supposed Caitlin Clark hater.
In her defense, Swoopes has already come out to say that she does not “dislike” Clark. This is despite the fact that Swoopes has been quite critical of the Indiana Fever star in the 53-year-old’s podcast, “Queens of the Court.” During an August episode, the three-time WNBA MVP refused to give credit to Clark for the Fever’s recent rise in the standings, instead heaping praise on Kelsey Mitchell and Aliyah Boston.
One of Swoopes’ old tweets has now resurfaced, and the fans are convinced that this serves as further proof of the WNBA icon’s agenda against Clark. In April, Connecticut Sun guard-froward DiJonai Carrington came out with a bold statement claiming that Clark “might lead the league [in] assists this year.”
Carrington’s Sun teammate, Alyssa Thomas, who herself finished second in the WNBA in assists (7.9 per game) in 2023, took notice of the tweet. Thomas responded by saying, “Don’t play with me Nai 😂”
Swoopes took notice of the social media exchange, and she, too, had to chime in with her own response.
“🤣🤣🤣” Swoopes tweeted.
Based on the thread, it appears that Swoopes was responding to Thomas’ playful response. However, the fans do not seem to care very much about this fact now that Swoopes’ five-month-old tweet has resurfaced.
The mean streets of X weren’t very nice to Sheryl.
“cooked,” read a comment.
“Who’s laughing now? 😂😂” said another.
“A prime example of when you let your resentment and jealousy get in the way of rational thinking and intelligence,” said a user.
“You still feeling this Ms Swoopes?” asked another.
“Your wnba career overshadowed in one year hate to see it,” a reaction read.
“😂 Another big L for Swoopes. Want to know what’s really driving this? Swoopes career stats are 15.1/4.9/3.2/2 in Pts/Reb/Ast/Stl. Clark as a rookie is 19.2/5.8/8.5/1.3,” pointed out another user.
At this point in the season, Caitlin Clark is indeed leading the league in assists. She has 306 dimes to her name, with Alyssa Thomas trailing her in second (270). Clark is also averaging a league-best 8.5 assists per game with four games remaining in the regular season.
True enough, Carrington’s fearless forecast is on the brink of coming to fruition, and the fans are using this fact to call Swoopes out yet again.
