Erika Kirk left the White House Correspondents’ Dinner in tears after suspected gunman Cole Thomas Allen breached security, but she’s being accused by fans of being “performative.”
In a clip that went viral after the ballroom at the Washington D.C. Hilton was evacuated on Saturday, April 25, Erika, 37, could be seen crying as she was escorted out.
“I just want to go home,” the mom of two sobbed.
“The most performative woman who ever lived,” one user on X wrote alongside the video of Erika.
“Netflix needs to sign this woman,” another person commented, adding that her “performance level is so elite.”
A third person chimed in and said, “Everything about her just comes off as so fake and scripted.”
“Erika Kirk is going to need so many fireworks to get over this one,” a fourth person wrote.
Not everyone had harsh things to say about the new TurningPoint USA president. Some people defended Erika to those criticizing her.
“One day, you will need empathy,” an X user wrote in reply to someone slamming Erika, “and it will not be there.”
Erika’s late husband, Charlie Kirk, was assassinated on September 10, 2025, during the first stop of his American Comeback Tour. Charlie, 31, was speaking to a large crowd at Utah Valley University when he was shot in the neck. He was immediately transported to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. He and Erika shared two small children together.
As Globe previously reported, Allen, 31, allegedly rushed a security checkpoint at the White House Correspondent’s Dinner on Saturday night. He exchanged gunfire with law enforcement before he was tackled and handcuffed. No one was seriously injured.
Allen has been charged with attempting to assassinate the president.
