The black boy sold candy on the street, until he told Patrick Mahomes the reason, he burst into tears.

Jordan woke up to the dim light of dawn peeking through the dirty window of the shelter. He pushed himself off the thin, worn mattress that served as his bed. Around him, twelve other children still slept, huddled under blankets that barely kept the cold away. Rubbing his eyes, he grabbed his worn hoodie and made his way out, careful not to make too much noise. His day had to start early if he wanted to sell enough candy to get by.

As he walked through the corridors, the peeling paint on the walls gave the place an almost forgotten look. He knew better than to hope for a hot breakfast; he hadn’t had one in months. Instead, Jordan quietly made his way out of the shelter and headed toward the subway, clutching his patched-up box of candy, which looked like it might fall apart any day now.

Once at the subway station, Jordan joined the early morning crowd. He scanned his surroundings, always aware of the hustle and bustle around him. Adults moved quickly, most looking like they hadn’t had enough sleep, just like him. He squeezed into the crowded train, the doors hissing shut behind him. Staring at his reflection in the glass, his wide, alert eyes were a stark contrast to the tired looks of the grown-ups around him.

The train ride to Midtown wasn’t long, but it was enough for Jordan to mentally prepare. He reached into his pocket, feeling the few coins he managed to save from yesterday—barely enough for a decent meal. His stomach growled, but he ignored it; he had work to do.

The streets of Manhattan were already alive when Jordan arrived. Cars sped by, honking at each other while people rushed along the sidewalks, all with places to be. He found his usual spot near the crosswalk of a busy intersection and opened the box of candy, the sweet smell briefly comforting him. He started to move between the cars, tapping on windows and holding up the candy to see if anyone would buy. Most people ignored him; a few waved him off. He was used to it and didn’t take it personally. People had their own problems.

Then he noticed a car that had just pulled up—a shiny black Lexus, the kind that stood out against the other cars. He had seen this car every day for weeks. The man inside was Patrick Mahomes, a well-known football player. Patrick always looked put together; his suit was neat, his tie perfectly in place, his hair carefully styled. Jordan had watched him every day getting out of his car and walking into the tall building across the street.

Jordan approached the Lexus, and Patrick turned his head. Their eyes met for a moment, just a moment, but it was enough to make Jordan pause. He took a breath, held up a candy bar, and approached the window. Patrick smiled politely, lowered the window just a crack, and shook his head. “Not today, kid,” he said, his voice smooth and kind but distant.

Jordan nodded, giving a small smile before moving on. But something in that interaction made him feel different today. He couldn’t explain it, but it was like a small flame had been lit in him. Patrick wasn’t like everyone else who just ignored him; he looked at him, not just at him but into him, like he saw the boy for who he really was.

After hours of working the intersection, Jordan returned to the shelter with a pocket full of change and tired legs. He dropped onto his mattress, the day’s exhaustion making his limbs feel heavy. But the noise of the other kids settling in for the night kept him awake. His roommates argued over a toy, one of the younger ones crying about something that had been taken away. Jordan stared at the ceiling, a growing feeling of hopelessness settling in his chest.

He turned to his side, curling up, trying to shut it all out. He knew the shelter was in trouble; the social worker had talked to some of the older kids about budget cuts. They were running out of money, and soon some of them would have to go. Jordan didn’t know where they’d send him, but he knew it wouldn’t be somewhere good. He had heard stories—horrible stories—about other shelters and how much worse it could get.

Then he thought of Patrick. He didn’t know why, but he wondered what it would be like to have a life like his—wearing those suits, driving that car. He wondered what it would be like to have someone to take care of him, someone who’d want him. The idea wouldn’t leave his mind, and as he lay there staring at the shadows on the ceiling, Jordan made a decision.

The next morning was colder, the sky a dull gray. Jordan pulled his hoodie tighter as he stepped out of the shelter, the wind biting at his skin. He made his way back to Midtown, but today he wasn’t focused on selling candy; he was focused on Patrick. He watched from his

Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes surprises boys taking picture with his car

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (WDAF) – A pair of teenage boys received a huge surprise while taking pictures with an exotic car in Kansas City recently.

Erica Lee and her two sons, Ayden and Kobe, were walking around downtown Kansas City, Missouri when they saw a black Lamborghini parked in the Power & Light District and decided they wanted to take a picture with it.

Lee said her boys are avid fans of exotic vehicles and that a Lamborghini is not a common vehicle to see in the city.

As they were posing and taking the photos, body guards and the vehicle’s owner approached the boys.

The owner was none other than Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

Although the model of the Lamborghini is unclear, the vehicle is reminiscent of a gift Mahomes bought for his wife, then-fiancée, Brittany Matthews.

Pictures of Brittany in the vehicle showed a back row of seats, and the only publicly available model of the Italian luxury vehicle with a back row is the Lamborghini Urus.

Lee said they were starstruck. Ayden and Kobe asked for pictures with the Super Bowl LIV winning quarterback and he happily agreed.

Kobe, the oldest of the two brothers, congratulated Mahomes on a successful 2021 season and Mahomes said, “Thank you,” and left.
