A fascinating blockbuster trade proposal has the Indiana Fever shaking up their core around Caitlin Clark by swapping out one superstar for another.
The Fever snapped a three-game losing skid on Tuesday by defeating the Washington Mystics 85-76, improving to 3-4 on the season. Caitlin Clark has missed the last three games recovering from a quad injury, and she’s expected to be sidelined for at least one more week of action.
At 3-4, it’s far too early to panic in Indiana. They split their first four games with Clark on the floor, and their schedule gets easier in a couple of weeks. Still, it’s never too early for GM Amber Cox to alter the supporting cast around Clark if she decides it’s necessary.
X/Twitter user @District22FC proposed a blockbuster trade idea that has Indiana trading veteran standout Kelsey Mitchell to the Atlanta Dream for two-time All-Star and three-point specialist Allisha Gray:
Gray and Mitchell are just 10 months apart in age (Gray is 30, Mitchell turns 30 in November) and were both named All-Stars in 2023 and 2024. Gray is having the better season thus far, averaging 21.4 points, 5.1 rebounds and 4.6 assists per game. Mitchell is averaging 17.4 points, 1.3 rebounds and 3.0 assists per contest.
Kelsey Mitchell and Caitlin Clark and have emerged as one of the WNBA’s top scoring tandems, and the Dream (5-2) are tied for third in the league standings. So it’s tough to envision either team wanting to make a one-for-one swap, especially this early in the season, but never say never in the WNBA.
Caitlin Clark Definitely Needs More Scoring Help If Fever Are To Contend For A Championship In 2025

Five Indiana players are averaging double-digit points per game through seven games, including Clark and Mitchell. But going back to last year, it’s obvious the Fever need another big-time scorer to complement their franchise star. So if they continue to hover around the .500 mark ahead of the trade deadline, don’t be surprised if a big move is made to help Clark.
