Indiana Fever’s head coach reveals Caitlin Clark’s extra yard during WNBA offseason says, ‘She figured out, I can’t get knocked around as much’
Caitlin Clark, the reigning WNBA Rookie of the Year, is leaving no stone unturned during the off-season as she prepares for her second year in professional basketball. After a stellar debut season with the Indiana Fever, where she led the team to their first WNBA Finals appearance in eight years, Clark is focused on elevating her game even further.
Building Strength and Efficiency
Clark’s head coach, Stephanie White, recently shared insights into the 23-year-old’s off-season progress. White emphasized that Clark has been working diligently to improve her physical strength and overall efficiency on the court.
“She is stronger, first and foremost,” White told The Athletic. “She’s got a lot of self-awareness. She figured out right away that ‘I need to get stronger, I can’t get knocked around as much’. She’s done a great job of getting in the weight room and focusing on her strength, in terms of low center of gravity, time under tension, all of those things.”
White also highlighted the next steps in Clark’s development, stating, “I think the next step is efficiency. Not so many turnovers, higher field goal percentages.”
A Stellar Rookie Season
Clark’s rookie campaign was nothing short of remarkable. She quickly established herself as a key player for the Indiana Fever, showcasing her scoring ability, court vision, and leadership. Her efforts not only earned her the Rookie of the Year award but also propelled the Fever to the WNBA Finals, marking a significant milestone for the franchise.

Looking Ahead to the 2024 Season
As the new WNBA regular season approaches, set to begin on May 16, Clark is more determined than ever to build on her rookie success. With her off-season focus on strength training and improving efficiency, fans and analysts alike are eager to see how she will elevate her game in her sophomore year.
