Mahomes is hopeful the team can refind their best form in the playoffs

 

PATRICK MAHOMES engineered a stunning fourth-quarter comeback over the Los Angeles Chargers for the Kansas City Chiefs.

The Chiefs were losing 17-16 going into the final moments.

with Mahomes hitting two consecutive incomplete passes to to Isiah Pacheco.

 

 

Patrick Mahomes was key as the Kansas City Chiefs won late on against the Los Angeles Chargers.

 

 

Matthew Wright’s late field goal cannoned off of the left upright to seal a late win for the Chiefs.

However, he was then able to pick up 10 yards in the LA territory going into the final two minutes.

Travis Kelce was then able to free himself to allow Mahomes to find him for a first down with just over a minute remaining.

with the Chargers having no timeouts remaining.

Mahomes and co needed to kill the clock before replacement kicker Matthew Wright’s 31-yard kick.

But Wright had a heart-in-mouth moment as his kick cannoned off the left upright to seal a stunning last-gasp 19-17 victory.

 

The win moved the Chiefs to a 12-1 record to seal a ninth-straight AFC West crown.

In the end, Mahomes completed 24 of his 37 passes for 210 yards and a touchdown.

A stunning defeat to the Buffalo Bills in late November had shown the Chiefs to be vulnerable.

with nine of their games before the win over the Chargers game being won by a single score.

Mahomes has also had an off year despite this record.

Taking to social media, one fan said: “Patrick Mahomes just hasn’t been very good this year.”

A second said: “The Chiefs are averaging 5.1 yards per play, the worst of the Mahomes era in Weeks 1-14.”

Another said: “Mahomes is having the worst season of his career.”

But speaking ahead of the Chiefs game against the Chargers, Mahomes was confident the Cheifs could get back to their best.

He said: “Every team I’ve been on, I feel like has been a championship team.

 

 

“It’s been plays here or there that either we’ve lost in overtime with the AFC Championship Game or lost in the Super Bowl.

“But we have the talent, the coaching staff and the work ethic to go out there and win any football game.

“It’s about going out there and doing that on a day-to-day basis and we have guys that are motivated enough to do that.

“It’s not going to be easy, it never is.

“You have to play your best football at the perfect time in order to win a championship.

and that’s what I’ve learned through my time in the NFL.”

Chiefs play the Cleveland Browns in their next game.

where they will be hoping to find some better form rather than scraping by with results.
