The Sun guard had an ugly clash with the Fever fanbase online.
Connecticut Sun guard DiJonai Carrington didn’t hold back after a heated game against the Indiana Fever, calling out the Fever’s fanbase in the wake of an 84-80 loss on Wednesday night. The game, marked by fierce competition between Carrington and Fever rookie sensation Caitlin Clark, took an ugly turn when a meme surfaced online that outraged the Sun star.
Carrington took to social media to express her frustration with Indiana fans, tweeting, “The Indiana Fever has the nastiest fans in the W. Ew.” Her post quickly gained traction, with nearly 2 million impressions.
The image that inspired the disgusting DiJonai Carrington and Caitlin Clark meme.
But the real firestorm erupted when a racially insensitive meme emerged, depicting Clark as Derek Chauvin and Carrington as George Floyd in a twisted reference to the 2020 murder that shocked the nation.
Carrington was horrified by the offensive visual and didn’t hesitate to call out the vile content. “Imagine thinking George Floyd’s murder is a joke,” she wrote in response. “All because of a basketball game. This is so sick.”
It was an intense game at Gainbridge Fieldhouse
The Sun guard’s reaction garnered widespread support, with many fans condemning the disgusting meme and the racial undertones it carried. However, Clark has yet to comment on the incident.
This ugly episode overshadowed what was an otherwise thrilling showdown on the court. Carrington and Clark went head-to-head, each finishing with 19 points in a game that went down to the wire.
The third quarter was a key moment in the contest, with Clark nailing a deep three-pointer that brought the Indiana crowd to its feet. Carrington quickly responded with a three-pointer of her own, silencing the crowd with a taunting “shh” gesture as she backpedaled on defense.
In the end, the Fever silenced the Sun

The fierce back-and-forth continued into the final quarter, with neither team holding more than a three-point lead until the final 19 seconds. Ultimately, it was a personal foul by Carrington that sent Fever guard Lexie Hull to the line, where she sank the clutch free throws to secure the Fever’s victory.
Despite the on-court drama, it was the off-court controversy that stole the headlines, with Carrington’s brave response to the disgusting meme sparking a larger conversation about the toxic side of sports fandom.
