Nike Facing Backlash After Caitlin Clark Wins WNBA Rookie of the Year
Caitlin Clark’s first WNBA season with the Indiana Fever has officially come to an end, and it was a historic one.
The 2024 No. 1 pick led Indiana to its first playoff appearance since 2016 and broke many records along the way, including the single-season assists record and the most points by a rookie.
For her stellar first year, the WNBA has finally announced that Clark is the 2024 Rookie of the Year. However, she was not a unanimous vote as Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese received one vote herself.
Nike, which signed Clark to a $28 million endorsement deal before the season began, made a post to celebrate their star’s latest honor.
“Is there a rookie record for rookie records?” Nike captioned the post with a list of all Clark’s achievements.

However, many fans have noticed that this was Nike’s first post about the rookie since the beginning of the season. There were many opportunities for the athletics corporation to celebrate their $28 million star, including the numerous records. Instead, Nike waited until after Clark’s season ended to praise her.
The fans that did notice this were not too happy with Nike, taking to social media to leave their thoughts.

“First tweet regarding the current biggest star in women’s sports since the night she was drafted. Do better, Swoosh,” one fan said.
“I’ll say it, because Nike Basketball hasn’t even had the decency to say your name or congratulation you. Congratulations Caitlin! Rookie of the Year 2024! You’re a true professional, and we can’t wait to watch you grow!”
“Oh, hey. They remember she exists after all.”
“Finally! Now you lined up everything in one post. what’s the hold on posting anything about CC huh Nike? Did you now realize the decline of support because of the wrong strategies you’re making? Sorry, but as a CC fan (i’m def not a troll) staying silent all this time is bs!!”
“Wow, y’all finally realized Caitlin Clark actually is signed with you?? Congrats.”
“Finally decided to say something and then post all her accolades at the same time versus in real time when it was happening.”
Clark finished the season averaging 19.2 points, 5.7 rebounds and a league-leading 8.4 assists. She also made the WNBA All-Star team and broke another record in Team WNBA’s upset win over Team USA. Safe to say, her rookie year was a success.
