Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid is due for a contract extension in 2025-26, and analysts are starting to speculate wether the worlds best player might opt for a team friendly contract.
Its no secret that Leon Draisaitl just signed a monster contract extension for $14 MM AAV per season.
With that being said, Connor McDavid is set to re-sign in 2025-2026. With the announcement of Leon Draisaitl’s contract extension, all eyes are now on Connor McDavid to follow suit.
McDavid’s comfort in Edmonton is palpable. The Oilers organization has built a strong team around him, and the city’s passionate fanbase provides unwavering support.
With that being said, McDavid’s commitment to building a legacy in Edmonton is becoming increasingly clear.
Predicting Connor McDavid’s contract
Without question, Connor McDavid is the best hockey player in the world, and the value of his future contract should reflect that.
Let’s say that McDavid signs an eight-year deal with the Oilers this summer that carries a cap hit anywhere in the range of $14.5 million and $15 million. Perhaps that upper echelon could even go as high as $15.5 million.
That would be a considerable raise from his last contract, make him the highest-paid player in the league, and allow the team to remain competitive with a rising cap.
Regardless, Connor McDavid’s new contract will set the bar for elite players around the NHL for the next decade.
