For the first time since 2014, the Kansas City Chiefs will not be in the NFL playoffs.

The Chiefs have made the last three Super Bowls and have been a dominant team for the past decade. But Sunday’s 16-13 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers put an end to their playoff hopes.

To make things worse, star quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who had never missed the playoffs during his nine-year career, suffered a torn ACL and faces a long road to recovery with the beginning of the 2026 season in question.

Chiefs fans can start to look ahead to free agency and the NFL draft.

On Sunday night, Mike Renner of CBS Sports compiled a new NFL mock draft. In it, he had the Chiefs landing a key piece with the No. 11 pick.

Renner had the Chiefs selecting Miami Hurricanes offensive lineman Francis Mauigoa.

“Given how this season ended for the Chiefs, the front office may very well want to make sure Patrick Mahomes is never in the firing line behind a UDFA [undrafted free agent] offensive tackle again. Mauigoa would pair with Trey Smith on the right side to create one brutish double-team combo,” Renner wrote.

He had him ranked as the No. 1 OL prospect and the No. 8 overall prospect, so it would be a big piece for the offense going forward.

Mauigoa just won the ACC’s 2025 Jacobs Blocking Trophy, which is given to the most outstanding blocker and is voted on by head coaches and defensive coordinators.

The Chiefs had plenty of injuries all across the roster this season, but bringing in Mauigoa and pairing him with Smith would be a massive boost for Mahomes and the offense.
