It Took Only 45 Minutes for the Caitlin Clark Effect to Hit Its Peak as 15K Americans Honor Iowa Icon’s Homecoming

Last month, when the Indiana Fever announced that they’ll be playing an exhibition game at the University of Iowa’s Carver-Hawkeye Arena on May 4, fans started buzzing with excitement knowing that Caitlin Clark will soon come back home to play again! It promised to be a homecoming like no other.

That excitement continued! The Iowa Hawkeyes announced last week on their social media that the presale tickets for the Fever’s game against the Brazilian National Team for Iowa athletics donors and Iowa women’s basketball season ticket holders would go live on February 27 at 9 a.m. CT and prices of the tickets will range from $60 to $200.

General public tickets for the game were set to go on sale on February 28, with prices ranging from $70 to $250, plus a $6 fee. But guess what? The entire batch of tickets sold out in just 45 minutes on the day 1 itself.  This was confirmed by journalist Chloe Peterson on X who quoted the Iowa Women’s Basketball page’s announcement. This just shows how eager the Iowa fans are to welcome Caitlin back home!

That said, Caitlin won’t be the only one making a homecoming this May! Her arch-rival is also heading back to her roots for a preseason showdown. Let’s take a look at that!

Angel Reese to make a homecoming just like Caitlin Clark this pre-season

Just two days before Caitlin Clark’s highly anticipated homecoming, Angel Reese will be making her own emotional return to the Pete Maravich Assembly Center. She’ll be back in front of the LSU crowd that saw her grow as a player and enjoyed countless success together to play for the Chicago Sky against the Brazil National team.

Reese released a statement sharing her excitement to come back, “It will be amazing to return to Baton Rouge, a community that means so much to me,” ” LSU was instrumental in preparing me for the WNBA and I can’t wait to hit the court in front of both Tigers and Sky fans.”

Reese was one of the best players at LSU, averaging 20.9 points, 14.4 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 1.9 steals per game while shooting a solid 50.1% from the field over two seasons. She played a huge role in leading the Tigers to a national championship in 2023 against none other than Clark’s Iowa and even won the Most Outstanding Player during the tournament.

To make things even more exciting, Caitlin Clark’s Fever will kick off their season at home against the Chicago Sky! The rivalry between Clark and Reese has already given us some epic matchups, and with season 2 of their showdown coming up, fans can’t wait to get more of the same. What a way to kickstart the season!
