Former Boston Bruins captain Patrice Bergeron isn’t ready to see Brad Marchand in Florida Panthers colors — so much so that he denied his kids a wish.

The Boston legend appeared on NESN on Monday and admitted to not letting his kids get their hands on his former teammate’s new jersey.

The former Bruins captain, who spent 14 seasons alongside Marchand in Boston, revealed his children asked for a Panthers jersey after his trade to Florida. He wouldn’t budge.

“I said that earlier that my kids were asking for Marshy Florida jersey,” Bergeron said, via NESN. “I said, ‘Way too early for that.’”

Marchand’s unexpected departure before the trade deadline sent shockwaves through Boston and left even the Bruins front office speechless.

The Bruins shipped their longtime winger and captain — Marchand took the “C” from Bergeron at the start of this season — to the Panthers in exchange for a conditional second-round pick after failing to reach a contract extension.

“Just seeing that footage — is definitely different, obviously,” Bergeron said about the clip of Marchand’s introduction with the Panthers. “I love him so much. I wish him all the best. But it’s definitely gonna be different not seeing him with black and gold.”

According to NHL analyst Paul Bissonnette, Marchand asked Boston for a three-year deal worth $7.5 million annually. The Bruins, however, refused to meet those demands, which led to the decision to trade the veteran.

To an extent, Bergeron is right in that it’s “way too early” to start buying Marchand’s new jersey considering he remains sidelined with an upper-body injury.

A new report has come out and confirmed what the Boston Bruins actually offered Brad Marchand.

According to Paul Bissonnette the Boston Bruins offered Brad Marchand $6.125 million, which is the exact same as the contract he is signed too right now. Marchand’s camp reportedly asked for $7.5 million.

This is when Marchand called for a meeting and stated that he was willing to meet in the middle, but the Boston Bruins would not budge.

Marchand was then traded to the Florida Panthers, the only other team he wanted to play for.

If this is accurate I think Bruins were not satisfied with his production and/or leadership. Why else would they move on from him?
