Lamar Jackson Avoids Drake’s Curse and Helps Millionaire Rapper Secure $600K+ Payout in Ravens Win
Lamar Jackson made sure that the Ravens crossed the victory line on Saturday, January 11 against the Steelers. By completing 16 of 21 passes (76% completion rate) in 175 yards with 2 touchdowns, he was their star of the night. The game was played in tough conditions, after being delayed for 1 hour and 25 minutes because of thunderstorms. But Jackson was above everything else.
Not only he moved to the next round of playoffs, he also avoided a major phenomenon that has cursed many teams and athletes. Drake’s Curse! That is real. Drake posted a photo on Instagram showing he bet on the quarterback scoring a touchdown. Since then, the fans were worried. But Lamar Jackson scored 2 touchdowns in the first half that put Ravens in a commanding 21-0 position.
He stunned fans by posting the bet screenshot with the caption, “wild card.” The millionaire rapper bet $210,000 on the quarterback, but received a whopping triple amount of $630,000. That’s huge. It’s one of those rare instances when the player he supported has performed well and won the game for his team.
In 2024 NBA Finals, Drake bet $500k on Dallas Mavericks to defeat the Boston Celtics, but they lost. In the 2024 Stanley Cup Final, he placed a bet of the same amount on the Edmonton Oilers against the Florida Panthers, but they too lost. Since then, everyone started talking about the Drake’s curse being a real thing. But Lamar Jackson had other plans.
Lamar Jackson and Drake’s friendship runs deep
Drake started showing love to Ravens in 2020 when he posted a video wearing a Ravens jacket. The NFL superstar and the rapper were first spotted watching the 2022 Kentucky Derby together. In 2023, they surprised everyone when Lamar Jackson appeared with him in the DC concert of his It’s All A Blur tour. Drake had even called him ‘My Quarterback.‘
However, fans would be excited to see whom he would support if Lamar Jackson faces Patrick Mahomes in the AFC championship game. When the Chiefs were against the 49ers in the Super Bowl LVIII last year, the rapper had placed a $1.5 million bet on Mahomes. He aptly captioned it, “I can’t bet against the swifties.”
With their wild card victory, Lamar Jackson moved one step closer to his Super Bowl dreams. But they will need to win 3 more games. The Ravens flock is celebrating. They have another week to prepare. As the playoffs move deeper, the intensity is increasing.
