Olympics Under Fire After USA Wins ‘Rigged’ Gold Medal Over Canada
For the first time in 46 years the United States men’s hockey team won the gold medal in a thrilling 2-1 overtime victory over Canada thanks to an overtime winner from Jack Hughes.
“It’s special,” said captain Auston Matthews. “It feels like it’s been too long. I think over the last 10, 15 years, there’s been a very big upcharge of American hockey players coming through in the NHL. They’re world-class players. This is the first time in my NHL career we’ve been allowed to compete in the Olympics. To have this opportunity it meant a lot to put USA hockey on the map. We did that.”
While the United States ended up on top, there were a few controversial moments during the game that had Canadian fans calling the game “rigged.”

The United States appeared to get caught with too many men on the ice, which would have resulted in a power play for the Canadian side. However, the officials didn’t blow the whistle and play continued without a man advantage for Team Canada, which sparked fury from fans.

“You don’t call TOO MANY MEN but you call a 4 minute double minor?! RIGGED get out of here BYE,” one fan called out while another said, “RIGGED THERE WAS TOO MANY MEN ON THE ICE.”
“USA had hooks and holds all period. Too many men at end of period. Canadian refs are scared to call penalties against US cause everyone will say it’s rigged. What a joke,” suggested another.
Later in the game the Canada failed to score on a 5-on-3 power play and eventually lost in overtime as USA goaltender Connor Hellebuyck stopped 41 of 42 shots en route to the overtime win.
OLYMPICS EXPLODE IN CONTROVERSY: “RIGGED” GOLD MEDAL SHOCKER AS USA STEALS HOCKEY GLORY FROM CANADA! 🔥🇺🇸🇨🇦
The Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics are under massive HEAT after Team USA’s men’s hockey squad snatched a controversial 2-1 overtime gold medal victory over bitter rivals Canada—sparking furious accusations of a straight-up RIGGED final! 😡
Jack Hughes’ dramatic OT winner—after he BLEED for the red, white, and blue, losing teeth and still burying the dagger—should’ve been pure American legend fuel. But instead? Canadian fans are SCREAMING “RIGGED!” over blatant officiating blunders that handed the game to the Stars and Stripes.
The flashpoint? Late in the third period, with the score tied 1-1 and momentum swinging, Team USA got caught with TOO MANY MEN ON THE ICE—clear as day on replay. Canadian players erupted, bench went wild, but the refs? Crickets. No whistle. No power play. Play just… continued. Moments later, a high-sticking double-minor on Canada’s Sam Bennett gave the U.S. four minutes of power-play time—setting the stage for the OT chaos.
Social media ERUPTED: “Holy rigged. Congrats on your undeserved gold. Embarrassing.” “Refs just handed the game to the USA—too many men and they ignore it?!” “USA had hooks, holds, and now this? RIGGED get out of here BYE!”

Even before the final buzzer, fans roasted the officiating crew—including Canadian and American refs assigned to the matchup—calling for neutral officials only in high-stakes rival games. “Why no Europeans for the biggest game? Scared to call it straight?”
Team USA’s Connor Hellebuyck stood on his head, Hughes played through a bloody, toothless grin like a warrior, and America ended that 46-year drought with unbreakable heart. But for Canada? The silver feels like stolen gold, tainted by missed calls and “what ifs.”
The White House even jumped in with savage trolling posts, while Canadian supporters vow the real champions wear maple leaf red. Was it bad reffing… or something more? The debate rages on, the ice still bloody, and the Olympics just got a whole lot spicier! 🏒🇺🇸 vs 🇨🇦—who really won Milano Cortina? 🔥
