In the aftermath of the big scuffle between Caitlin Clark’s Indiana Fever and the Connecticut Sun, a petition has been started to get one of Clark’s teammates kicked out of the WNBA.

The petition on Change.org has been going viral (though not exactly successful) for demanding Fever guard Sophie Cunningham be banned. Cunningham was at the center of a controversy earlier this week when she fouled a Sun player in apparent retaliation for an earlier foul on Clark.

Clark’s fans called Cunningham a hero for defending the Fever star, while many others feel that Cunningham was shameful for doing so. Clearly the creator of this petition falls in the latter category.

The petition’s title is “Remove Sophie Cunningham from WNBA for misconduct” and has received a whopping 185 signatures out of a requested 200 in the day since it was published.

However, players must adhere to a code of conduct that ensures fairness and respect on the court. Sophie Cunningham’s aggressive and malicious actions have violated these principles, diminishing the spirit of competition and setting a poor example for aspiring young athletes.

Incidents of note include Cunningham’s on-court aggressions that have led to physical altercations, injury to fellow athletes, and disruption of games, impacting both teams’ performances and the overall enjoyment of fans. But with less than 200, the WNBA probably won’t even see it unless someone sends it directly to the Commissioner’s email.
