Caitlin Clark’s arrival continues to change the WNBA. That’s what many fans believe as the league not only keeps on growing but also transforming.
On Thursday, the WNBA announced that it is making tweaks to its playoff format starting in 2025, with the first round becoming a 1-1-1 series (home-away-home) to give the lower-seeded team a home game. In years past, the format was 2-1, where the higher-seeded team plays at home in the first two games of the best-of-three series.
After the announcement, fans were quick to relate it to Clark. Some said that the WNBA did it after the 2024 Rookie of the Year and her Indiana Fever were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs in two games without being able to play at home because of the current format.
Others pointed out that the WNBA made the change since the interest in the league is at an all-time high due to Clark. For what it’s worth, the league also increased the number of regular season games to 44 per team after having 40 in 2024.
“The Caitlin Clark effect. We want more women’s basketball because of her,” a fan commented. Another one said, “The Caitlin Clark money starting to come in.”
“Look at CC man so inspirational and transcendent,” a social media user added.
A fourth poster shared, “All thanks to CC.”
“Caitlin Clark up their with Michael Jordan,” a supporter added.
“They missed a lot of money on Fever’s home playoff game. CAITLIN CLARK EFFECT!” another follower chimed in.

While not all comments about Clark are positive, one thing is clear based on the comments of the fans and critics alike: the Fever superstar has been a huge catalyst in helping the league put out a better product on the court.
