Caitlin Clark Pleads to Ex-Iowa Teammate While Rival Angel Reese Attempts to Fix Her 18.8% Problem

Caitlin Clark had an unforgettable season, shattering records, while Angel Reese’s season was cut short due to injury. And she had to watch from the sidelines as her long-term rival lifted the Rookie of the Year award. But now, the Chicago Sky star is back on the floor, and she’s determined to make a splash next season. Does that worry Caitlin Clark?
Well, she might just be keeping a close eye on her. Just after Reese’s video practicing 3-pointers in a solid form went viral, CC turned to her former Iowa teammate-cum-friend, Jada Gyamfi. While these two instances might be completely unrelated, some fans couldn’t help but speculate. The video, which was uploaded by a fan, was captioned, “That Angel Reese dagger 3 in the wnba finals gonna hit like cr-ck.” Interestingly, Reese shot just 18.8% from deep last season, making just 3 of her 16 attempts.
On the other hand, the Indiana Fever guard took to her Instagram to show some love to Gyamfi after a highlight-worthy moment in Iowa’s 94-57 win over Toledo. Gyamfi hit a tough layup in traffic during the game, and Clark shared the moment on her social media.
“teach me @jadagyamfi,” she penned on the IG story. Gyamfi reshared the story, writing, “let’s get in the lab 22.” We know that CC has always been there for her friends, whether it’s supporting them on social media or celebrating their success. Despite her own rise to stardom in Indiana, she hasn’t forgotten where she came from. But this time, is it merely a way of celebrating her friend or a hidden message?
The two 2024 draftees have transformed from the faces of women’s college basketball to two of the WNBA’s biggest stars. Their rivalry was first thrust into the limelight during the 2023 NCAA Championship game, and it intensified when they faced off again in the 2024 Elite Eight.
Clark & Reese’s rivalry then carried into their WNBA rookie seasons, where they were drafted as the 1st and 7th overall picks, respectively, and became magnets for media attention. Both hoopers contributed significantly. Yet, with Reese sidelined, CC may have gained the upper hand, securing milestones while Reese worked to recover.
Initially, while both were potential contenders for ROTY, Fever’s #22 ended up bagging it. Hence, the Tigers alumna has a lot to prove this year. And her early practice sessions show she knows it very well. But do you know, back in college, it was Reese who dealt the ultimate blow in their rivalry when, during the 2023 NCAA Championship game as she led LSU to claim their first-ever national title over Clark’s Hawkeye?
Angel recalls the NCAA Championship moment
The intensity of that game was unforgettable, and so were the Sky forward’s bold gestures. After sealing LSU’s victory, she hit the former Hawkeyes star with the infamous “You Can’t See Me” taunt.
She then pointed to her ring finger, reminding everyone watching who had claimed the title. The internet went wild. “My life literally just changed from that game,” Reese told WSJ Magazine in a recent interview. Despite it all, it has always been a healthy competition for the athletes and the Sky star even wants to team up with CC someday.

Even back in October 2023, ex-Lady Tigers’ star said, “Oh my gosh, I love Caitlin. It was always fun, always competitive. One day, hopefully, we could even be teammates.” Clark, on her end, has also shown a lot of respect for Reese’s game.
When asked about the taunt, she wasn’t phased. “We’re all competitive. We all show our emotions in a different way,” she explained. “Angel’s a tremendous, tremendous player. I have nothing but respect for her.” Now, as they move into their second WNBA season, both of them have something to prove. Can Chi-Town Barbie change last year’s story?
