The range of instant responses to the Chiefs’ acquisition of DeAndre Hopkins was wide (and hilarious) when the news broke.
The Kansas City Chiefs finally made their move for some wide receiver help on Wednesday after watching yet another pass catcher declared out with injury (that’d be JuJu Smith-Schuster with a hamstring for Week 8).
When they traded for Tennessee Titans receiver DeAndre Hopkins.
While it doesn’t replace the many bodies they’ve lost, it at least stems the bleeding with some imported help.
The potential addition of Hopkins has had some smoke for a couple of years out of Arrowhead.
And now the Chiefs can finally marry the big, physical receiver with Patrick Mahomes, even if it’s a couple of years past his prime.
How will things work out? What should Chiefs fans think of the deal? How will this affect things going forward? The wide range of responses to the news on Twitter (er, X) show that there’s no uniform answer on these things.
Some were quick to point out just how good this move is for Hopkins personally, going from a single win to the NFL’s only unbeaten team.
Gotta love the illustration here for a good laugh.
For some fans, the move felt like another masterstroke from general manager Brett Veach.
Hopkins gives the Chiefs a big target to partner with the speed of Xavier Worthy and that should keep the wheels rolling with the depth at other positions like tight end and running back.

.
.
For some other NFL fans, the move for Hopkins doesn’t move the needle.
After all, he’s into his mid-thirties now and he hasn’t made a Pro Bowl since 2020.
.
.
But just because Hopkins isn’t what he used to be doesn’t mean he’s not going to help these Chiefs.
.
.
.
Then again, some were correct to point out the fact that the Chiefs are already sitting comfortably in first place.
Not only in the AFC West but in their conference as well as the only undefeated team left in the NFL.
.
.
Of course, we all really know who was pulling the strings on this Chiefs-Titans trade.
