As mentioned by CNN
Aâja Wilson was named the WNBA MVP for the 2025 season, earning the award for a record fourth time.
The Las Vegas Aces star collected 51 of 72 first-place votes from a panel of sports journalists and commentators, finishing with 657 points and ahead of Napheesa Collier of the Minnesota Lynx (534 points) and Phoenix Mercury forward Alyssa Thomas (391 points).
She had previously been MVP in 2020, 2022 and 2024; Sundayâs announcement means Wilson has surpassed the trio of players who had won the award before â the likes of Sheryl Swoopes, Lisa Leslie and Lauren Jackson.
Interestingly, this also means that Wilson â who was the No. 1 pick in the 2018 draft â has won the award in half of her eight WNBA seasons, with last yearâs award being unanimous â the first since 1997, when Cynthia Cooper did so.
The Aces center received the MVP trophy, crafted by Tiffany & Co., on Friday, as shown by the leagueâs official video footage.
Wilsonâs tears moved her teammates, and later she was congratulated by WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert.
âJust one of the most outstanding players ever to be in this league. A global icon, a global ambassador, not only for our game but for all womenâs sports and all sports.â
Key season results and context of the award
In the 2025 regular season, Wilson led the league in points with an average of 23.4, in rebounds with 10.2, and in assists with 3.1. In the playoffs she scored 38 points in the 74-73 win over the Seattle Storm in Game 4, opening the path to the semifinals against the Indiana Fever, which will begin in Las Vegas.
For the season she finished second in the league in blocks (92) and third in steals (64). This week Wilson was also named Defensive Player of the Year for the third time, sharing the award with Lynx forward Alanna Smith.
She became the franchiseâs all-time leading scorer, and her No. 22 jersey was retired in February.
For much of the season it seemed Collier would win her first WNBA MVP trophy. However, she missed seven games due to an injury suffered in a win over the Aces, which affected Las Vegasâs 16-game winning streak â during which Wilson averaged 26.1 points and 12.0 rebounds.
Wilson and Collier could still meet in the WNBA Finals, as the Lynx prepare to begin their semifinal against the Phoenix Mercury this Sunday in Las Vegas.
After the announcement Wilson is almost certainly poised for new heights in future seasons, as she is already making history not only with her numbers but also with her impact on the development of the game and womenâs sports at large.
