Kansas City Chiefs Again Linked To Former Packers’ Superstar
The Kansas City Chiefs are in need of some help at offensive tackle, and they could be turning to a former Green Bay Packers star for some assistance.
Charles Goldman of A to Z Sports names David Bakhtiari as a player the Chiefs could pursue to man their left tackle spot in 2024.
Bakhtiari was cut by the Packers earlier this offseason due to consistent injury issues.
The 32-year-old, who played his collegiate football at the University of Colorado, was selected by Green Bay in the fourth round of the 2013 NFL Draft.
He immediately became a starter for the Packers during his rookie campaign but didn’t begin receiving recognition as an elite offensive lineman until his fourth season, when he made his first Pro Bowl appearance.
From 2016 through 2020, Bakhtiari established himself as one of the best tackles in football, making three trips to the Pro Bowl, earning a pair of First-Team All-Pro selections and three Second-Team All-Pro nods during that span.
However, over the past three seasons, Bakhtiari has played in a grand total of 13 games, mainly due to knee issues. Eleven of those contests came in 2022. He participated in just one game this past season.
There is no doubt that Bakhtiari remains a force when healthy, but his inability to stay on the field forced the Packers’ hand into releasing him.
Currently, Wanya Morris is Kansas City’s No. 1 left tackle on the depth chart, but head coach Andy Reid has not committed to him as the starter.
We’ll see if the Chiefs try and take a swing on Bakhtiari, who remains unsigned.
The Pittsburgh Steelers (7-2) are one of the biggest surprises in the NFL this season. They entered the season with so many questions about their team, roster and coaching staff, but have now shown they can beat any team.
Offensively, the Steelers have exceeded expectations with questions they had the offensive line and their lack of commitment at quarterback. Veteran quarterback Russell Wilson has helped create a consistent offense with some great weapons.
Their biggest success this season comes from their elite play on defense. The Steelers rank second in the league in points allowed per game (16.2) thanks to a roster full of impact players.
The Steelers only got better at the NFL Tradeline with solid additions on both sides of the field. While many will highlight the immediate impact that wide receiver Mike Williams brings to the offense, ESPN NFL insider Dan Graziano said one player was an underrated pickup that will make a difference the rest of the season.

Preston Smith was an immediate star
There were several great pickups throughout the league either before or right at the NFL Trade Deadline.
One was Mike Williams, who in his first game as a Steeler caught a key touchdown to help win the game.
There was an important addition on the other side of the ball. The Steelers made an easy move to trade a seventh-round pick in the upcoming 2025 NFL Draft to the Green Bay Packers in exchange for Smith.
Graziano complimented the immediate availability that Smith brought to the Steelers, and projects him to play an important role over the upcoming stretch.
He explains: “Preston Smith was an under-the-radar add for the Steelers, but with Alex Highsmith injured again, Smith could get some high-leverage pass-rush opportunities while offenses focus on trying to stop T.J. Watt.”
The move was an instant success for the Steelers as Smith would be moved back to his natural position at outside linebacker.
He was a back up in his first game as a Steeler, but would soon be tasked to step up for Alex Highsmith, who was injured in the 28-27 road win over the Washington Commanders. Smith accounted for three total tackles and a sack into the game.
Smith’s impact moving forward
The Steelers are one of the most successful teams in the league based on their ability to create a highly efficient roster every year.
Pittsburgh had the roster to remain in contention for a playoff spot, but the trades for Williams and Smith pushed the team into a potential AFC North Divisional winner.
The Steelers weren’t expecting the potential injury that would come to Highsmith, but it will have delighted them how fast Smith has adjusted to the defensive scheme.
Smith has shown he can remain one of the top linebackers in the league after some highly efficient seasons with Green Bay. He has the potential to be a key player on the best defenses in the league moving, especially now he has his chance.
