Caitlin Clark: The great heir of Larry Bird in the WNBA
The Indiana player shares some characteristics with the NBA legend
Caitlin Clark has become a true mass phenomenon, both at the media and fan level. Her breakthrough in the WNBA has exceeded all expectations. She is now a sports figure not only in the United States, but also worldwide. At the age of 22, the Indiana Fever player is a reference for girls.
Her arrival in the WNBA is comparable to that of the greatest of this sport, whether male or female. Her way of playing impacts everyone, but this has even caused her to be involved in some controversies, as there are players who believe that she is praised for being “young, pretty and white”. Caitlin has aroused jealousy and envy in a sport where players with her characteristics have a harder time shining.
However, Caitlin’s play has enamored most fans. If one had to look for a parallel with basketball legends, whether male or female, saving the distances, her game does have some of the characteristics that made Larry Bird great.
The Indiana Fever player plays point guard, a position different from Bird’s, but she does have many other similarities. For starters, she is already the great white hope, as was the case with the Celtics player. Caitlin has a spectacular mid and long distance shot, just like Bird, she has an incredible intelligence on the court, she sees basketball like few others and while her physique is not exactly her best quality, she makes up for it with her talent. These characteristics are very similar to those that made Bird become an NBA legend in a tough battle with Magic Johnson at the time.
A benchmark for girls
Logically, she is still far from reaching Bird’s achievements, an NBA legend, but Caitlin’s impact on the WNBA is tremendous. No one disputes that, at 22 years old, she will be one of the great protagonists of American basketball for many years, something that also happened with Larry Bird. Caitlin is already a benchmark for many of those girls who want to imitate her.
