Chicago Sky’s Angel Reese announces she’s dropping out of her rookie season.
Why is Angel Reese ending her WNBA participation before the end of the season?
Despite what Caitlin Clark fans think, Chicago Sky rookie Angel Reese actually had a tremendous first season in the WNBA. She was definitely the second ebst rookie of the entire league this season. But unfortunately, Angel Reese has ended her participation in the current season that is still ongoing. The reason for this is unexpected and it left all of her fans wth a broken heart. The player herself was the one who made the announcement to all her social media followers and she promised to return next season with a bang for Year 2. But let’s find out what exactly happened to Angel Reese that made her call it quits before the season is oevr.
Angel Reese’s heart breaking announcement
Reese writes: “What a year. I never would have imagined the last bucket of my rookie season would be a 3 but maybe that was God saying give them a taste of what they will be seeing more of in Year 2. Through it all, I have showed that I belong in this league even when no one else believed. All I have ever wanted was to come into the W and make an impact. I can confidently say I have done that and will strive to keep doing so. I’m filled with emotions right now that I have a season ending injury, but also filled with so much gratitude for what is next. Although this is God’s timing and not mine, I am finally able to give myself a physical and mental break. You’ll still see me being the biggest cheerleader on the sideline! And Unrivaled league, see you soon!”
Unfortunately, Angel Reese injured her wrist during her most recent game during Chicago Sky’s Friday ictory oevr Los Angeles Sparks. Reese is set to miss the rest of the current season after being evaluated when the game ended. During her race to win Rookie of the Year, Reese did take the lead during the start of the season until Caitlin Clark gained momentum in the second half. Still, Angel Reese proed she is the rebounc queen despite bbeing a rookie. Year 2 is going to be fantastic for her, especially with the hunger for success that she has.
The truth about Angel Reese’s injury
Many suspect Reese’s injury may be serious if the Sky are shutting her down with six games remaining in the regular season and the team fighting for the WNBA’s eighth and final playoff spot.
However, there’s another segment of the fanbase that believes shutting Reese down for the rest of the season is part of a larger conspiracy theory for the Sky to tank for a better draft pick, and they weren’t shy about sharing their suspicions of chicanery on social media.
“Sky tryna go full tank mode for Paige (Bueckers)?” one fan tweeted.
“That podcast must’ve brought in some cash. She out! OR the Sky ready to really tank to get a lottery pick. [I’m] pickin the second,” another commented.
“The Chicago Sky just got bailed out and now they have an excuse to tank the rest of the season. With or without Reese they were going to get swept in the playoffs and lose out on the draft lottery,” a third remarked.
“She had her best game of the year, the team is tanking and wants to lose the rest of their games. I see why conspiracy theories exist lol AR cannot gain anything by playing another minute this season. No awards are within reach so go out on top, and help your team tank too,” another fan stated.
Chicago has lost eight of 10 games since the Olympic break, and if it did secure the No. 8 seed in the playoff field, the chances of the team getting past the No. 1-seeded New York Liberty are slim.
So it would make sense for the team to at least consider packing it in and trying to land another Reese-type player in the 2025 draft class, which boasts UConn’s Paige Bueckers, LSU’s Aneesah Morrow and USC’s Kiki Iriafen at the top.
