Former Nanny Shares Heartfelt Goodbye from Patrick Mahomes’ Daughter Sterling — Her Final Words Brought Tears: “It Felt Like Leaving a Real Family”
“The goodbye didn’t feel like leaving a job. It felt like leaving a family.”
That’s how a former nanny described her final day at the Mahomes household — a day she thought would be simple, professional, maybe even a bit routine. She was wrong.

She had been with the Mahomes family since Sterling was barely walking, witnessing the little girl’s first words, first steps, and countless quiet moments in between. Over time, what began as a job slowly became something more — a bond built through bedtime stories, spilled cereal, and early morning giggles.
When the day came for her to say goodbye, the nanny — who chose to remain unnamed — was careful not to make a scene. She didn’t want to turn it into a dramatic moment. She had accepted a new position in another state, one that aligned with her long-term plans. Everyone in the Mahomes family had supported her decision, even if reluctantly. Brittany had hugged her tightly that morning. Patrick, ever gracious, thanked her again for the love she had shown their daughter.
But it was Sterling — just barely old enough to understand what was happening — who gave her something she would never forget.

“I was packing up the last of my things,” the nanny recalled, “and trying to stay strong. I didn’t want to cry in front of her.”
Sterling, who had been unusually quiet all morning, wandered into the room holding a small teddy bear. It was a familiar sight — the bear had been with Sterling through nearly everything. It was her favorite, one she never let anyone else touch. Even her parents joked that it was “off-limits.”
The little girl tugged at the nanny’s hand. She knelt down, expecting maybe a simple hug, or a goodbye wave. But instead, Sterling leaned in close and whispered:
“If you don’t see me in the morning… I’ll leave this bear here to wait for you.”
The nanny froze. For a few seconds, she couldn’t respond — her throat tightened, and all the emotional restraint she had been holding onto slipped away.
“I broke,” she said later. “That moment crushed me. She wasn’t just saying goodbye. She was trying to make sure I wouldn’t feel alone.”
Sterling then gently placed the bear on the bench by the door — the same spot where the nanny used to sit every morning, waiting for Sterling to wake up. It was a silent gesture of love, from a child too young to express it any other way.
Patrick walked in just as the nanny was wiping her eyes. He saw the bear, saw the tears, and without saying a word, walked over and pulled her into a hug.

“I’m not sure what he said,” she recalled, “but it didn’t matter. That hug said everything. It was his way of saying thank you, and goodbye, and maybe even sorry — for how hard it was to leave.”
She left that day with the bear still sitting by the door. She said she couldn’t take it — not after what it had come to mean. It belonged in that house, in that quiet little corner that now felt more sacred than ever.
Later, when asked why the memory stayed with her so vividly, she explained:
“I’ve worked with many families. I’ve said a lot of goodbyes. But this was the first time I felt like I wasn’t leaving an employer. I was leaving a little piece of my heart behind.”
