Football fans are accusing the NFL refs of “rigging” the Minnesota Vikings-Los Angeles Rams “Thursday Night Football” game after missing an obvious call at the end.
The Vikings were backed up at their five-yard line and trailing 28-20 with 1:42 remaining. Sam Darnold took the snap and looked for an open receiver but was taken down by Byron Young in the end zone for a safety to ice the game. But as you can see in the video below, Young got away with an obvious facemask penalty as he brought Darnold down:
And from this angle, you’ll see that one of the officials had a clear view on Young committing the blatant facemask infraction on Darnold:
The safety put the Rams up by 10 points to ice the game. And that awful game-changing call led to plenty of complaints from fans, who accused the NFL refs of “rigging” the contest in favor of the Rams:
This stat won’t make Vikings fans feel any better about the NFL officiating: The team was called for nine penalties for a total 50 yards, while the Rams were called for just six penalties worth 40 yards.
No Excuses For NFL Refs To Miss This Call
Bad calls happen all the time, but the officials have zero excuse for missing the facemask against Young. There was a referee right there to see it, and a game with significant playoff implications like the Rams-Vikings showdown simply can’t come down to a missed call like that.
