A’ja Wilson continues to be on fire.

On Thursday (July 11), the Las Vegas Aces center won the Best Athlete in Women’s Sports award at the 2024 ESPY Awards. “I could not miss an opportunity to say thank you to all my fans out there,” Wilson said in a pre-recorded acceptance speech. I wouldn’t be the player that I am today without you guys’ support; it does not go unnoticed.”

She added, “It’s crazy to think that a young girl that didn’t even want to play basketball has… won an ESPY, which is truly, truly special to my heart.”

Wilson was up against tennis player Coco Gauff, Indiana Fever rookie Caitlin Clark, and golfer Nelly Korda.

This award comes just one day after Wilson was named the cover athlete for the WNBA edition of the NBA 2K25 video game. “Being featured on the NBA 2K25 cover is a big moment for me and a testament to the ever-growing fandom of the WNBA,” she said in a statement. “Seeing more and more WNBA athletes scanned into NBA 2K25 to best capture the style and confidence of the league has been empowering, and I can’t wait for fans to experience it in-game.”
