The Fever plays today at 6:30pm EST against Phoenix Mercury in their first game since July 17.
After a month-long hiatus due to the Olympic Games, the WNBA resumed its historic season yesterday with three games. The closest matchup saw the Minnesota Lynx (18-8) secure an 11-point victory over the struggling Washington Mystics (6-20). The other two games were blowouts, with the league-leading New York Liberty (22-4) cruising to a win over the Los Angeles Sparks (6-19) by more than 30 points, and the Phoenix Mercury (14-12), led by Olympic medalist Brittney Griner, defeating the Chicago Sky (10-15) and rookie Angel Reese by 20 points.
Fever’s Social Media Team Throws Shade
Although the Indiana Fever didn’t play yesterday, their social media team took the opportunity to mock Angel Reese, Caitlin Clark’s competition for Rookie of the Year. Reese, along with the entire Sky team, had a rough game despite notching her usual triple-double with 11 points and 15 rebounds. In the game against Phoenix Mercury, Reese struggled with her shooting, finishing 4-14 (28.57%) from the field. The official Fever account posted a tweet with the caption, “Caitlin Clark’s three-point game? Elite. Our Rookie of the Year can put on a show.”
The timing was impeccable, as Reese’s Sky team was down by over 20 points at that moment. Fans quickly noticed the jab, commenting with responses like “admin.. CHILLLL” and “mao this new admin bro perfect timing I swear,” clearly recognizing the post as a show of support for Clark. Tonight, the Fever will face the same Phoenix Mercury team that handed Reese and the Sky their blowout defeat. It will be interesting to see if the Sky’s social media team responds in kind if Mercury manage a win, or if the Fever doubles down on their support for Clark if they come out victorious. The game will test whether the Fever’s lack of recent play or Phoenix’s back-to-back games with three Olympic medalists, who have not rested, will be the deciding factor.

Caitlin Clark has played in all 26 of the Fever’s games this season, ranking third in the league in minutes played (35.2), averaging 17.1 points, and leading the league with 8.2 assists per game. She has already broken several records and is on track to break more, including being the first rookie in WNBA history to achieve a triple-double and setting the league record for most assists (19) in a single game. I find this latest record impressive considering that he has only been in the league for a couple of months.
