Travis Kelce and Tony Gonzalez are two of the best tight ends in the history of the NFL, and the Kansas City Chiefs are lucky enough to have had both of them. Although Gonzalez did not win a ring, he’s always remembered as one of the greats.
Gonzalez played for the franchise from 1997 to 2008 before playing five more years with the Atlanta Falcons. Throughout his excellent stint with the Chiefs, he scored 76 touchdowns, and during Wednesday’s Christmas games, Kelce broke his long-standing record, scoring his 77th touchdown for the franchise.
After he broke Gonzalez’s record, a video of the legendary former tight end emerged, congratulating Kelce for breaking his record. The milestone was a matter of time, so the video was previously recorded in an empty Arrowhead Stadium:

A heart-warming moment happened in Pittsburgh, where the Chiefs defeated the Steelers 29-10 to confirm the first seed in the conference, guaranteeing a Wild Card Round bye and also the home-field advantage throughout the playoffs. After scoring the touchdown that officially broke the record, Kelce paid tribute to Gonzalez with his touchdown celebration:
This was one of the finest exhibitions of the Chiefs’ tight end this season. He finished the game with eight catches, 84 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Travis Kelce’s stats in the 2024 season
With one game to go in 2024, he currently has 824 receiving yards, three touchdowns and 97 receptions. It’s unlikely that he’ll be able to cross the 100-yard mark.
With the Chiefs already securing home-field advantage for the postseason, Andy Reid will look to rest Patrick Mahomes and a number of key players to get them ready for the playoffs. Kansas City has seen important players losing games due to injury, so with nothing more to gain, there should be no reason for the starters to play.
The Chiefs will play the Denver Broncos in Week 18. They are looking to become the first team in the history of the NFL to win three straight Super Bowl championships, after defeating the Philadelphia Eagles and the San Francisco 49ers in recent years.
