NEW FOOTAGE! DeWanna Bonner & Phoenix Mercury ADMIT To Indiana Fever SCAM! Protect Caitlin Clark!

When WNBA Phoenix Mercury’s head coach Nate Tibbets joked about DeWanna Bonner being their “third time’s a charm” signing — and casually mentioned Alyssa Thomas helping make it happen — the internet exploded. Was this just an innocent reunion, or proof that Phoenix planned Bonner’s exit from Caitlin Clark & Indiana Fever all along?

DeWanna Bonner opened up after her return to the Phoenix Mercury following a brief stint with the Indiana Fever. Bonner, who started the 2025 season with the Fever, was waived by the franchise on June 25 following a nine-game stint. In nine games she played at Indiana, the veteran started in three of them, but soon realized that the goals she once envisioned while signing with them weren’t turning into reality. As things didn’t work out, she signed with Phoenix earlier this month.

However, it seems that the 37-year-old doesn’t have any regret and is more focused on her future with Phoenix rather than dwelling on what happened in the past. Bonner said, “I wouldn’t do anything differently. I think my journey is my journey, and I’m going to accept that. It carried me to where I am now in Phoenix, and it happened that way for a reason.” Talking about her role of coming off the bench at Indiana, Bonner said, “That wasn’t ever the issue. That’s never been me. I have no problems coming off the benchI have never been that player. I don’t feel like I have that reputation.”

What Went Wrong With Indiana Fever and DeWanna Bonner?

DeWanna Bonner, who was drafted by the Mercury as the fifth overall pick in the 2009 WNBA Draft, has made a mark for herself as a versatile and dynamic player. When she signed with the Fever before the 2025 season, it was obviously expected for her to carry her momentum with Stephanie White’s team. However, things didn’t go as expected, neither for Bonner nor for Fever.

After starting three games for the Fever, she was moved to the bench, owing to her struggles as a starter. She averaged just 7.1 points for Indiana, while shooting 34.5% in nine games. However, in due time, it became clear that Bonner wasn’t the right fit for Fever, and she stayed away from the team until released. She signed with Phoenix again, the team where she spent a decade of her career, and it can be said that she has seemingly found her form.

Currently, she is averaging 13.4 points while shooting 47.8% and 40.0% from beyond the arc in five games for the Mercury.
