Don Cherry still cannot believe it. The former Canadian hockey coach and NHL commentator remains shocked by the Boston Bruins’ moves at the trade deadline a few weeks ago, especially when they shipped out captain Brad Marchand to the Florida Panthers.

On his latest podcast, Grapes commented on the many trades that were pulled by Bruins general manager Don Sweeney, and did not sugarcoat any of it.

“That’s a big turnover, for sure. I don’t understand it. Something funny going on in that whole organization. They’re going to miss the playoffs, that’s for sure,” Cherry said. “I don’t know why they’re doing this. I just don’t understand it. They got rid of so many good players, and now look at them.”

Not only did Boston move Marchand out, but they also traded Brandon Carlo, who was sent to the Toronto Maple Leafs, and Trent Frederic was shiped to the Edmonton Oilers in a three-way deal.

This came months after the Bruins had already parted ways with key players like Jake DeBrusk, who signed with the Vancouver Canucks this past summer, Charlie Coyle who was moved to the Colorado Avalanche at the deadline as well, and goalie Linus Ullmark who was shipped to Ottawa back in June.

As Cherry pointed out, the Bruins are now completely lost and lack an identity. They will likely miss out on the postseason and have been dealt crushing losses, the most recent by the Los Angeles Kings, and they couldn’t even show up against the league’s worst team, the San Jose Sharks.

Boston only 10 games remaining on the schedule and are six points behind the Montreal Canadiens for the Eastern Conference’s last wild-card spot.
