Canada’s Connor McDavid Sends 10-Word Message After 4 Nations Win vs. USA
Edmonton Oilers superstar and captain Connor McDavid wasted no time celebrating Canada’s 3-2 overtime victory over the United States in the 4 Nations Face-Off final.
Once the waters calmed down a bit following his golden goal against the Americans, McDavid took to his Instagram account and published a post with a few pictures from the game and his family.
“Oh Canada! That was fun. Thank you Montreal and Boston!” McDavid wrote on the post.
McDavid played the hero for his country, scoring the championship-winning goal less than 10 minutes into overtime and delivering a moment that immediately drew comparisons to Sidney Crosby’s legendary “Golden Goal” at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics.
“We just found a way,” McDavid said after the game. “Means a lot to our group.”
“Really fitting,” Crosby said about McDavid’s goal. “The level that he plays at, he’s got that ability every single night to change a game. He’s proven it time and time again. And he proved it in one of the biggest moments.”
The similarities between the two goals, scored 15 years apart, were striking: both were overtime winners against the USA and came off passes from a winger.

McDavid’s goal secured Canada’s fourth consecutive international tournament victory, extending a run that includes Olympic gold in 2010 and 2014, as well as the 2016 World Cup of Hockey.
McDavid finished the tournament with three goals and two assists and came through when it mattered most.
“Just couldn’t believe it, really,” McDavid said. “Just excited for our group. Honestly, everybody was so dug in.”
