The Pillow Fight for St. Paul: MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell Challenges Governor Tim Walz
Minnesota politics just got a dose of spectacle. MyPillow CEO and ardent Trump loyalist, Mike Lindell, has officially declared his intention to challenge incumbent Governor Tim Walz, adding a high-profile, and highly unconventional, contender to the Republican primary field. The announcement, featured in a dramatic clip from the MyPillow factory, positions Lindell as the “problem solution” candidate for a state he claims is suffering from decay and lack of law enforcement.
The news comes shortly after Governor Walz, a Democrat, formally announced his campaign for what would be a historic third term.
Walz Faces Historical Headwinds
Governor Walz’s decision to seek re-election immediately runs into a significant historical obstacle: No Minnesota governor has won three consecutive four-year terms since the state adopted the current term length structure in 1958.
Furthermore, Walz’s national profile, raised due to his previous consideration as a Vice Presidential running mate for Kamala Harris, is viewed as a “double-edged sword.” While increased national notoriety grants him greater access to out-of-state campaign donors, his political exposure to national controversies may also “weigh him down,” according to a former opponent.

Walz is clearly aiming to frame his re-election campaign as a defense against national forces. He stated he would “never stop fighting to protect us from the chaos, corruption, and cruelty coming out of Washington,” effectively positioning Donald Trump as his political foil, regardless of whether Trump is directly on the Minnesota ballot.
Analysts suggest Walz’s first major campaign move will be calling a special session on gun reform—a controversial issue he plans to “come out hard” on, seeking to ban assault rifles. Though passage of such legislation is considered unlikely, the move is seen as a strategic “campaign relaunch” to stake his platform on a key progressive issue for the 2026 race and potentially for a future 2028 presidential bid.
Lindell: The Anti-Politician Contender
Mike Lindell, already a familiar figure to Minnesotans and a national icon of the election fraud movement, enters the race not as a seasoned politician but as a business mogul positioning himself as an outsider savior.
Appearing on Steve Bannon’s War Room, Lindell framed his gubernatorial run as an extension of his personal mission and recovery work. He cited his philanthropic efforts, including the Lindell Recovery Network, and his concern for what he described as a deteriorating Minneapolis, characterized by “empty buildings,” “empty retailers,” and a lack of police.
“I have great things in store, and not just ideas, but they’re all laid out as the solutions to all this problem,” Lindell insisted, arguing that his experience facing extreme personal and business “adversity” makes him uniquely qualified.
Lindell, who recently lost a massive $2.3 million defamation lawsuit, clearly believes his ability to fight against perceived corruption and “lying lawyers” translates directly into political success.

Walz’s Counter-Punch
Governor Walz’s immediate response to Lindell’s entry was sharp and dismissive, aiming to tie the MyPillow CEO directly to his national political patron.
“We’ve seen what happens when we elect a con man to the highest office in America. We can’t let it happen here in Minnesota,” Walz stated, clearly labeling Lindell as a political extension of Donald Trump and the chaos Walz is campaigning against.
With Lindell joining a crowded Republican field that already includes Dr. Scott Jensen, Representative Kristen Robbins, and Kendall Qualls, the race for the Republican nomination—and the subsequent general election—is guaranteed to be dramatic, divisive, and deeply influenced by national political figures.
