After yet another patient complaint, the chief doctor called her into his office.
— From now on you will be an ordinary orderly and will simply bathe the patients.
— But why are you doing this to me? — the nurse tried to protest.
— Patients constantly complain that you’re always on your phone, staring at the screen.
— Yes, it’s just that I have a sick daughter, I must know how she’s feeling.
— I don’t care. Do what I said, or you can write a resignation letter.
The nurse had to agree.
On the very first day she was told to go to the ward of a young man and wash him in the bath.

The guy had completely lost mobility, could move only his neck and eyes.
For the last few years he hadn’t moved at all.
She entered the room, looked at the guy and with difficulty helped the orderly bring him to the bathroom.
She filled the tub with water, checked the temperature, added some foam and began gently washing him.
Everything was quiet — only the sound of water and her sighs.
But suddenly the nurse saw something that horrified her.
— Oh God, this can’t be…
Continuation in the first comment.
The young man — the one who hadn’t been able to move for several years — suddenly grabbed her by the thigh.
— Lord… — she screamed, jerking away. — What are you doing?!
She thought the patient was behaving inappropriately, but then she froze, remembering that he was completely paralyzed below the neck.
— Did you do that? — she asked in a trembling voice.
— No… — he exhaled. — I didn’t do anything…
— But you just grabbed me!
— I can’t… I don’t feel…
The nurse, panicking, called the doctor. A few minutes later the chief doctor ran into the room. He examined the patient, touched his arm, and suddenly exclaimed:
— That’s impossible! I was sure all his nerves were dead!
He looked at the woman:
— You accidentally touched his ulnar nerve. It was a reflex! It means mobility in his limbs can be restored!
The nurse stood there, unable to believe her eyes. And the doctor added more quietly:
— You just saved his life. If we start rehabilitation, he might return to normal life.
The woman covered her mouth with her hand — tears welled up in her eyes.
That day she realized for the first time that even a random touch can become a miracle.
