Steph Curry has made his feelings clear on closing pay gap for WNBA players as Angel Reese claims she can’t cover her everyday bills
The Golden State Warriors star has given his views on pay in the WNBA.
Steph Curry is one of the most outspoken NBA stars when it comes to discussion around closing the pay gap for WNBA players, with Angel Reese recently revealing she can’t even cover her everyday bills on her current wage.
During the warm up for the WNBA All-Star game last weekend, players including Reese wore all-black t-shirts with the message ‘pay us what you owe us’.
Players and the union are stuck in negotiations over fair pay for WNBA players.
Under the current WNBA Collective Bargaining Agreement, players are entitled to 25 per cent of profits, so long as the league meets its revenue targets each year.
According to IndyStar, one player per team can earn up to $250,000 per year, with rookie contracts starting at $72,000.
But this is in stark contrast to the NBA, where players receive 50 per cent of all revenue generated regardless of targets.
Last year, 23-year-old Reese told an Instagram live stream that her $73,000 salary did not cover her $96,000-per-year rent.

On ESPN she said: “I just hope y’all know the WNBA don’t pay my bills at all.
“I don’t even think that pays one of my bills, [the salary] isn’t enough to pay my car note, I wouldn’t even be able to eat, I wouldn’t be able to live.
“I’m living beyond my means!”
Through other endorsements and a spot in the Unrivaled three-on-three league, Reese earns a six-figure sum, which allows her to afford her rent.

What did Curry say?
Golden State Warriors icon Curry endorsed the closing of the pay gap on Women’s Equality Day in 2018.
He wrote in the Players’ Tribune: “I think it’s important that we all come together to figure out how we can make that possible, as soon as possible.
“Not just as ‘fathers of daughters,’ or for those sorts of reasons.
“And not just on Women’s Equality Day. Every day – that’s when we need to be working to close the pay gap in this country.
“Because every day is when the pay gap is affecting women. And every day is when the pay gap is sending the wrong message to women about who they are, and how they’re valued, and what they can or cannot become.”
Curry said that he had been heavily influenced by his mum Sonya and wife Ayesha.
He is one of the greatest players in the world and has won four NBA Championship titles with the Warriors.
The 37-year-old was also named as MVP in both 2015 and 2016, before winning an Olympic gold medal in 2024.
