Kirk Herbstreit Reveals Little-Known Rule That Led to Controversial Chiefs Win.

On Friday afternoon the Kansas City Chiefs took down the Las Vegas Raiders by a final score of 19-17 – the team’s 14th consecutive one-score win, setting a new NFL record.

With the win over a division rival, the Chiefs moved to 11-1 on the season.

and clinched a playoff spot for the 10th consecutive season, second most in NFL history.

The history kept on rolling Friday afternoon when star quarterback Patrick Mahomes passed Len Dawson for most all-time passing touchdowns in franchise history.

The win wasn’t without controversy though.

Down 19-17, quarterback Aidan O’Connell had the Raiders in position for a game-winning field goal .

when an errant snap ricocheted off his shoulder and directly to Chiefs linebacker Nick Bolton.

Officials threw a flag on the play, one that looked like it should have been a false start.

A sideline official gestured to his officiating team that a false start occurred.

but the call was changed to an “illegal shift” resulting in the Chiefs keeping the ball instead of resetting the play.

Officials received flak on social media for the call.

but Prime Video lead analyst Kirk Herbstreit revealed the ruling is actually correct.

“This is what I was told.

I thought it was a dead ball foul as well.

But look at this,” he said showing the rule.

“’Under 2 minutes, if the offense never gets set before the snap, it’s a false start if and only if the clock is running.

If that clock is stopped, as it was here, then it’s an illegal shift and a live ball foul.

and the play continues…'” he said.

According to Herbstreit’s analysis here the officials got the call correct.

When the ball was snapped the clock was not running as O’Connell had just spiked the ball to stop the clock.

In the end, the Chiefs walked out with their 11th win while the Raiders fell to 2-10.
