South Carolina women’s basketball head coach Dawn Staley has officially been inducted into the FIBA Hall of Fame, marking yet another monumental achievement in her iconic basketball journey.
From three Olympic gold medals to two FIBA World Cup championships, and now Hall of Fame honors across FIBA, Naismith, and the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame, Staley’s legacy is unmatched.

Dawn Staley inducted into FIBA Hall of Fame
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) – South Carolina women’s basketball head coach Dawn Staley was inducted into the FIBA Hall of Fame in an enshrinement ceremony Saturday night at the Bahrain National Theater in Bahrain.
Staley earns the honor after a distinguished international career during her time as a player and as a coach. Staley won gold in three different Olympics and was a two-time FIBA World Cup winner. The Hall-of-Famer began her international medal haul with a bronze in the 1994 FIBA World Cup.
Staley turned bronze to gold in the next two FIBA tournaments for the U.S. in 1998 and 2002, while leading the team in assists both times.
Staley also collected Olympic gold in 1996, 2000. In 2004, Staley was the United States flag bearer in the opening ceremony in Athens, where she also won gold.
After retiring, she helped the U.S. to gold in the 2008 and 2016 Olympics as a coach, as well as the 2014 FIBA World Cup and the 2007 FIBA America Championship as an assistant coach for the senior national team.
In 2017, Staley moved into the head coach position for the U.S. Senior National Team, becoming the first Black coach to hold that title. With Staley at the helm, the group collected its seventh-straight Olympic gold medal and picked up gold in the 2019 and 2021 FIBA AmeriCups and the 2018 FIBA World Cup. She picked up her second USAB National Coach of the Year recognition in 2018.
Staley is now a member of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame on her resume.
