Oilers cursed by new Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney.
The Edmonton Oilers may have brought a rather unwanted curse upon themselves thanks to the new Canadian Prime Minister.
Fans are already having a field day with this one.
A rather amusing narrative is starting to quickly gain a ton of traction on social media after the Edmonton Oilers welcomed a special guest to practice this week, an invitation that has since been followed up with nothing short of a complete and total catastrophe for the Oilers organization.
This week the Oilers were visited by none other than newly appointed Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, with Carney not merely visiting the team but actually joining them out on the ice. Unfortunately for Carney, he was quickly mocked by fans who pointed out that, despite being a lifelong hockey fan, Carney didn’t seem to have much ability for the game itself. Perhaps the most ridiculed moment of Carney’s appearance was when he missed a wide open net from just a few feet away.
It would be what came after Carney’s appearance on the ice however that has really caused this story to explode.
After Carney hit the ice with the Oilers, the team experienced a catastrophe that is so bad it almost defies belief. Following the morning skate the Oilers would play the Winnipeg Jets later in the evening, and between the time Carney hit the ice and the conclusion of that game the Oilers had lost star forward Connor McDavid, star forward Leon Draisaitl, and number one goaltender Stuart Skinner all as a result of various injuries.
As if that wasn’t enough, the Oilers lost the game to the Jets as well with the Jets taking a 4-3 victory.
Fans quickly began to blame the appearance of Carney on the ice for the sudden disastrous streak of injuries for the Oilers, with the “Carney Curse” quickly gaining traction in several posts on social media.
It isn’t just fans talking about it either, former National Hockey League player Ryan Whitney also took to social media to express his belief in the curse.
“The Carney Curse is real for Edmonton,” wrote Whitney. “What the hell just happened. Guy is on the ice with the Oil this morning and now everyone is injured.”
Something tells me we won’t be seeing Carney back out on the ice with the Edmonton Oilers any time in the near future.
