Caitlin Clark ‘plays the WORST game of her WNBA career,’ claims Jason Whitlock… despite rookie’s record-breaking display against Seattle.
Jason Whitlock bashed Caitlin Clark over her record-breaking, near double-double performance on Sunday before retracting his condemnation of the WNBA star later on.
The outspoken basketball analyst took to X to blast Clark’s first-half display against the Seattle Storm, a 92-75 win for the Indiana Fever, as the 22-year-old was 0-5 from 3-pt range and 3-10 from the field. She also had three turnovers despite Indy leading by one at the break.
‘Caitlin Clark is playing the worst game of her WNBA career. Just awful. Taking bad shots. Missing bad shots. A bunch of bad turnovers,’ Whitlock shared on X.
After Clark ended up with 23 points, 9 assists and 5 rebounds at full time, Whitlock seemed to have had a change of heart on the point guard’s performance.
‘[…] Terrific second half. Fever win! Fever are going to be a problem in the playoffs. A real problem. WNBA playoffs are gonna be lit,’ the former ESPN’er wrote in a separate post on X.
Jason Whitlock didn’t hold back against Caitlin Clark before retrieving his criticism on Sunday
He first slammed the Fever star for ‘taking bad shots’ before saying her team will be a ‘problem’
Clark fans took issue with Whitlock’s change of tune.
‘Nice cover from your earlier tweet what did not age well,’ someone said on X.
‘But earlier you basically said she sh*t the bad and the honeymoon was over. Glad she recovered,’ another user pointed out.
‘You said a big Clark was having the worst game of her career. Maybe let things play out next time,’ a different individual replied to Whitlock’s post.
Clark’s 9 assists on Sunday gave her 231 for the season, the most by a rookie assists by a rookie since Ticha Penicheiro racked up 225 for the Sacramento Monarchs, one of the league’s original eight franchises.
Several Clark fans called out Whitlock for his sudden change of tune after the Fever’s home win
Clark set the record early in the third quarter when she made a long pass up the floor to Mitchell for a layup and a 40-34 lead.
Lexie Hull was on fire from long range, making six 3-pointers and scoring 22 points, both career highs, as Indiana (13-15) salvaged its final game against Seattle after three losses this season. The Fever also matched their win total from a year ago.
Hull was 6 of 7 from long range.
Seattle (17-10) got 26 points from Jewell Loyd and 15 from Skylar Diggins-Smith. Nneka Ogwumike finished with 14 points on 5 of 15 shooting, and contributed nine rebounds. The Storm have lost two straight.
