Kate Martin Continues to Shine After Taking on Angel Reese
The stage was set in Miami, Florida, as Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese and Golden State Valkyries guard Kate Martin showcased their skills in the inaugural season of the 3-on-3 Unrivaled league.
Both players have already made significant impressions during their rookie seasons in the WNBA, and they are continuing to create excitement in this new competitive environment.
In a thrilling matchup on Monday night, Reese’s Rose Basketball Club faced off against Martin’s Laces Basketball Club, with Martin’s team emerging victorious with a score of 71-64, marking the fourth game for both teams in the league.
The action heated up late in the first quarter. With just under a minute remaining and the Laces leading 13-12, Reese made a determined drive to the basket. She collided with Martin in mid-air, resulting in a foul that sent Reese crashing hard to the floor. Although she missed her initial shot, Reese executed one of her free throw attempts, earning two points for her efforts in the Unrivaled format.
Social media lit up with reactions from WNBA fans, who were quick to share their thoughts on the intense moment. In the game, Martin contributed significantly to her team’s victory, finishing with seven points on 3-of-8 shooting, along with six rebounds. Conversely, Reese displayed her prowess with 17 points on 3-of-5 shooting, complemented by seven rebounds and two assists, although she ultimately fouled out. Kayla McBride delivered the decisive shot for the Laces, clinching the win.
The rivalry between Reese and Martin is palpable, dating back to their collegiate careers. In the 2023 NCAAW national championship, Reese led LSU to a 102-85 victory over Martin and Iowa to clinch the title.
