Carlson himself also responded to Durov’s arrest, accusing governments and intelligence agencies of “censoring the truth.”

“In the end, it wasn’t Putin who arrested him for allowing the public to enjoy free speech. It was a Western country, an ally of the Biden administration and an enthusiastic member of NATO, who arrested him. Pavel Durov sits in a French prison today, a living warning to any platform owner who refuses to censor the truth at the behest of governments and intelligence agencies. Darkness is rapidly descending on the formerly free world,” the journalist wrote.

Arrest of Pavel Durov in France – what is known

On August 24, French intelligence services detained the founder and CEO of the Telegram messenger Pavel Durov. He was arrested as he stepped off his private jet onto the runway at Le Bourget Airport.

The warrant was issued because Durov failed to cooperate with French law enforcement, which allegedly makes him an accomplice to drug trafficking and other serious crimes. According to media reports, Durov faces 20 years in prison.

Deputy Speaker of the Russian State Duma Vladislav Davankov reported that  he sent an appeal  to the head of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Sergei Lavrov with a request to secure Durov’s release.
