Sophie Cunningham has seen enough. The Indiana Fever guard watched fans turn WNBA games into adult toy throwing contests and she’s done playing nice.
For the third time in just a few days, someone threw a dildo onto the court mid-game. The latest incidents happened at Wintrust Arena on Friday night during the game between Chicago Sky and Golden State Valkyries. Another landed during an Atlanta Dream vs. Phoenix Mercury game. One poor security guard picked it up bare-handed and tucked it into his shirt.
Yes, all together, there were three WNBA games, three airborne dildos, and zero sense left in the crowd.
Sophie Cunningham Speaks Up, Internet Loses It

After the latest incident, Cunningham took to X and didn’t mince words.
“Stop throwing dildos on the court… you’re going to hurt one of us,” she wrote.
Short. Direct. Completely fair. But, of course, fans on the internet did what fans do, turn it into comedy.
One user replied, “It’s up to the league and the players to navigate this. Balls in your court.”
Another said on Cunningham’s post, “Imagine how funny it would be if it becomes a trend.”
One user took it even further: “This may actually help with viewership! Betting odds on how many dildos hit the floor per game. I would watch this!”
And then came the guy who claimed, “Throwing sex toys is protected by the First Amendment. If you hate America and the Constitution, I recommend leaving.”
Yeah. That’s the kind of logic we’re dealing with.
Even the bootleg merch economy is apparently getting ideas: “They’re gonna start selling them outside the stadium like the bootleg merch and alcohol vendors,” someone wrote.
While some are clearly having a laugh, Cunningham’s warning is no joke. With players running through the court, anything on the floor becomes a serious safety hazard.
So far, the league hasn’t issued an official statement. But given how quickly this trend is gaining viral, they might have to, before things get even weirder.
