Caitlin Clark Reveals the One Thing She ‘Hates’ About the WNBA

The anticipation for Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark’s second WNBA season is palpable, with just over a month to go before the season tips off. Clark is eager to build on her stellar rookie campaign, which saw the Fever reach the playoffs and the former Iowa star claim Rookie of the Year honors as well as a WNBA All-Star selection.

Clark has had a busy offseason, making appearances at Chiefs games, having her jersey retired at Iowa, and sitting down for several interviews, including one with former NFL quarterback Eli Manning and her latest with David Letterman on Netflix’s “My Next Guest Needs No Introduction with David Letterman.”

During her conversation with Letterman, which aired this week, Clark opened up on a variety of topics. However, one remark stood out when she revealed something about the WNBA that she “hates.”

“I don’t mind [press conferences] after games, but I hate doing them before games,” Clark said. “The league requires it.”

She then jokingly added, “Maybe you should tell them not to require it anymore.”

Letterman, never one to hold back, responded with humor: “I have a personal message for the WNBA, as I call it the W. Knock off the pregame pressers. Thank you,” he said, looking straight into the camera at Clark’s request.

Clark has quickly become a standout figure in the WNBA, with many already considering her one of the faces of the league. Her impact on women’s basketball has been profound, yet she consistently acknowledges and praises the pioneers who paved the way for players like herself.

“I definitely have privilege,” Clark also said in the interview. “I’m obviously white, but I think I’m somebody who grew up a huge fan of this league. I grew up watching this league, going to games, supporting this league. So I know where this league comes from—a lot of Black women that grew up making this league what it is.”

Last season, Clark made an immediate impact, averaging 19.2 points, 8.4 assists, and 5.7 rebounds per game. She also led the league in assists, solidifying her place as one of the top playmakers in the WNBA.

As the season nears, all eyes will be on the Indiana Fever when they take on Angel Reese and the Chicago Sky in their season opener on May 17 in Indiana.
