Not sure this will sit well with the already pissed off fans. Full story below:
Last month, the Vancouver Canucks made waves when they announced that they had acquired Evander Kane in return for a fourth round pick in this year’s draft. No salary was retained in the deal, meaning moving Kane cleared $5.13 million in cap space for the Edmonton Oilers.
The transaction got a lot of people talking and even more fans frustrated in Vancouver, so much so that general manager Patrik Allvin had to address fans’ reactions, saying:
“The past is the past,” said Allvin of Kane, who notes that in his estimation Kane has matured the past few years in Edmonton.
“This gives us and gives him an opportunity to see if this is a long-term fit.”

Kane has a history of being punished in the NHL for off ice mishaps, and was suspended from the league for 21 games for faking COVID-19 documents during the 2021 season. As a result, his contract with the San Jose Sharks was later terminated, and he was later signed by Edmonton.
How does he now end up in Vancouver?
Well, according to Matt Sekeres who explained the ordeal on a recent episode of Sekeres and Price, Canucks owner Francesco Aquilini is the one that wanted the Canucks to acquire Evander Kane if and when the Oilers were going to make him available, which happened to be before the 2025 NHL Entry Draft.
“The owner (Francesco Aquilini) has long wanted Evander Kane, the owner asked the Canucks to get him when he was available.” Sekeres said.
The Canucks’ owner already isn’t a popular guy with the fanbase and so I doubt this will sit well with fans in Vancouver.
On top of that, the team has made other moves in the past week that have caused backlash from fans, trading promising goalie Arturs Silovs and fetched just a fourth-round pick in 2027 and a middling prospect and sending beloved winger Dakota Joshua to the Toronto Maple Leafs for a mid-rounder.
Not sure the truth about the Kane transaction will sit well with fans in Vancouver…
