Who Are Lucy Olsen’s Parents Roland and Kelley Olsen? Know All About the Iowa Guard’s Family
Lucy Olsen has quickly become one of the most talked-about names in women’s college basketball. The Iowa Hawkeyes guard has made headlines with her skills and stats, especially after stepping up big time in Caitlin Clark’s absence.
Fans surely admire her game, but it’s the family support and love that has shaped her journey. Let’s take a look at Lucy Olsen’s parents and what her family background is like.
Lucy Olsen’s Parents Roland and Kelley Olsen
Olsen was born on May 26, 2003, to Roland and Kelley Olsen. The couple, who are American nationals, have been a constant support system throughout Lucy’s basketball journey. From cheering in the stands to showing up on her social media, Roland and Kelley have been visible figures in Lucy’s life.
Earlier this year, Lucy shared a sweet birthday tribute to her dad on Instagram, calling him the “Best dad ever!” The post featured a collage of moments with her father that highlighted their close bond.

Another time, she posted a family photo where her parents proudly sported shirts that read, “Basketball is Fun,” with the caption “Family Over Everything!” — a clear sign of their tight-knit relationship and love for the game.
Their support has paid off. Lucy has built an impressive college résumé. She started her journey strong at Villanova, making the Big East All-Rookie Team in her freshman year. During that season, she averaged seven points and 2.7 rebounds, starting all 33 games.
As a sophomore, she stepped up her game, averaging 12.4 points, 163 assists, and 50 steals across 37 starts. She earned first-team All-Big honors and a first-team All-Big East selection. She also qualified for the USA Basketball 2023 women’s 3×3 U21 squad that competed in China.
Lucy’s Sisters, Olivia and Lila Olsen
Lucy grew up in Montgomery County, Penn., as the middle child among three sisters. Her older sister, Olivia, and younger sister, Lila, have each played a role in shaping her life and basketball path.
Olivia was the first to fall in love with basketball. Lucy would often tag along to her games, dribbling on the sidelines or jumping in for some practice time. Those early memories lit a spark that never faded.
Lucy was also a standout tennis player, winning the PIAA state tennis championship in the fall of 2020. Her all-around athleticism shows just how much influence and encouragement she likely received from her family.
She eventually transferred to Iowa after three strong seasons at Villanova. At Iowa, she shined in Clark’s absence, becoming a key figure for the Hawkeyes. Her 2024-2025 stats speak volumes: 17.9 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 5.1 assists per game.
Now headed for the WNBA Draft, Olsen is expected to be picked in the second round. While she may not go in the first round, teams like the Chicago Sky, Dallas Wings, or Los Angeles Sparks could be eyeing her. Her playmaking and basketball IQ make her a valuable prospect for the league.
