What Happened to Patrick Mahomes? Chiefs QB Suffers Non Contact Injury Against the Bucs
What just happened in the beginning of the first quarter in the Chiefs–Buccaneers game? Just when people thought Patrick Mahomes will make a huge comeback, the quarterback was injured and took to the sidelines. However, his injury was not in vain because he equalized the game before he left the field.
So what really happened to Patrick Mahomes? Well, the exact verdict on his injury is yet to be revealed, but from what we could see, he suddenly had a jerk in his left leg, got rid of the ball and threw a 7-yard touchdown pass to Samaje Perine. The game was tied 17-17, but the Chiefs fans were scared for their life.
Lisa Salters reported that Mahomes suffered an ankle injury. Mahomes needed a helping hand to get up and sat down on a bench on the sideline. A KC Star columnist took to X and shared, “Non-contact injury, scary stuff. Mahomes helped up and halfway across field, but he ultimately walked on his own to the medical table. Tied at 17 after the TD/PAT.”
Carson Wentz was getting ready to take Mahomes’ place, but later, we saw the QB coming out of the blue tent. He was running around and testing his ankle. Everything seemed to be fine in the end. But that toss to Samaje Perine was something else. The 3x QB knew exactly what to do even when he was injured and tossed the ball to the Chiefs’ RB.
The Chiefs’ QB got an ovation from the crowd that stood there as it rained cats and dogs. But by the time Mahomes came back, he already had scored two touchdowns. One on a 1-yard pass to DeAndre Hopkins and the other one right after the non-contact ankle injury. But things were different as soon as he came back.
Patrick Mahomes isn’t going anywhere
Not only did Mahomes come back, but he also helped DeAndre Hopkins made a killer debut. It definitely feels like the Kansas City Chiefs are back in a big way. The Chiefs’ offense felt really stale through the last seven games. But this time it’s different. Mahomes is throwing deep passes, his receivers aren’t dropping any the balls and most importantly, Kelce is a major part of the offense once again.

Barring the fumble that Kelce had early on in the game, he had 11 receptions by the time Chiefs took a 24-17 lead against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. But enough about that. Let’s talk about DeAndre Hopkins. A highlight worthy catch and two touchdowns in a game? Fantasy owners might be having a ball watching the former Titans receiver revive his career.
One thing is for sure, Mahomes can’t be taken down easily just like Erin and Emily, who are changing the football landscape slowly but surely.
