Sunday’s showdown between the Indiana Fever and Chicago Sky may be missing its two headliners with Caitlin Clark (right groin) officially ruled out and Angel Reese (back) listed as questionable in the availability report released Saturday night.
Clark has not played since suffering a right groin injury on July 15. She sought a second opinion during the team’s trip to New York earlier this week. The Fever (13-12) announced Thursday there were no signs of additional damage or injuries, and they are maintaining a long-term focus in her recovery, prioritizing her future health.
Clark played against the Sky in the season opener, but was sidelined with a left quad strain when the Fever traveled to Chicago on June 7 (Indiana won, 79-52).
There is no timetable for her return.
Clark was dressed for Saturday’s practice, but it is unclear if she participated and to what extent.
Reese did not play Thursday vs. Seattle due to a back injury. She participated in last weekend’s WNBA All-Star game and logged 11 points and 11 rebounds over 30 minutes against Minnesota on Tuesday.
Reese, who is averaging 13.8 points, 12.5 rebounds and 3.7 assists through 22 games, did some individual work during practice Saturday, but was still non-contact according to Sky coach Tyler Marsh.
Marsh told reporters Reese is still considered day-to-day, adding: “We don’t want to push her too much with a back injury, but she’s progressing.”
Sunday’s Fever-Sky game was relocated to the United Center earlier this year due to the “unprecedented demand” for tickets for last season’s matchups. Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m. EST on ESPN.
Chicago (7-17) ruled out Ariel Atkins (leg), Moriah Jefferson (leg) and Courtney Vandersloot (knee) for Sunday game’s game with Hailey Van Lith (ankle) and Michaela Onyenwere (knee) also listed questionable.
