Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has revealed how the close wins this season have kept the team on edge.
The Kansas City Chiefs sit at 11-1 on the season, but not many will say they have been playing superb football this year; in fact, they’ve been up and down.
With nine of the Chiefs’ 11 wins this season being by one score, Andy Reid’s team is getting the job done.
and they don’t seem to be bothered by how it looks.
The division is already won, which means a home playoff game.
but some are convinced of this version of Kansas City because it does not look like the well-oiled machine we’ve come to expect.
But Patrick Mahomes has a different take, stating that the close wins keep the team hungry for improvement despite being 11-1 on the year.
“I think it keeps you motivated,” Mahomes said.
“I look back on the year we lost in the Super Bowl.
and we were very dominant throughout the regular season.
and it’s like you start coasting because you’re winning games, you’re doing the normal thing.
“Whereas if you look at us last year, even though it didn’t go the way we wanted, we just continued to work every single week.
and we knew we had to get better, and we didn’t let the details slip.
We end up playing our best football at the end of the year.
With all these close finishes, we’re getting wins.
but it’s keeping us hungry so that we can try to continue to get better as a season goes on.”
Mahomes does have a point.
While winning close games is great, it still gives you ample room for improvement.
and might be more beneficial than blowing teams out by 20 points each week.
As he stated, it was the same last season.
and while many doubted the Chiefs, come playoff time when it really mattered.
they clicked into gear and ran through the Miami Dolphins, Buffalo Bills, and Baltimore Ravens en route to beating the San Francisco 49ers in the Super Bowl.
That is the hope again, and with five games to go before the playoffs.
