❤️ BREAKING: Dawn Staley Donates Entire $3 Million in Prize and Sponsorship Earnings to Texas Flood Victims

South Carolina women’s basketball coach Dawn Staley has pledged her entire $3 million in prize money and sponsorship earnings to help victims of the devastating floods that tore through central Texas last month.

The floods have left entire communities in ruins and claimed the lives of at least 28 people, including several children. Thousands remain displaced, with many living in shelters or makeshift camps as recovery efforts continue.

Staley, one of the most respected figures in women’s basketball, made the announcement quietly through a relief foundation based in Houston. But the news quickly spread, drawing admiration from fans, players, and humanitarian organizations across the country.

“I witnessed the struggles of homelessness firsthand growing up,” Staley shared in a statement. “I always promised myself that if I ever had the chance, I’d give back. No one should be forced to sleep on the streets.”

More Than a Coach

This donation is just the latest example of Staley’s deep-rooted commitment to service and social justice. Long known for her outspoken advocacy for racial equity, education, and underserved communities, she has consistently used her platform to uplift those in need.

Staley’s $3 million contribution is already being deployed by local organizations to fund emergency housing, clean water access, food distribution, and trauma counseling services. The funds are also being used to support rebuilding efforts in several of the hardest-hit areas, including Waco, Killeen, and parts of Travis and Bell Counties.

“Dawn Staley’s generosity isn’t just about money — it’s about hope,” said Carla Morales, director of the Texas Disaster Relief Fund. “She’s showing these families that someone sees them, believes in them, and is standing with them.”

A Ripple Effect of Kindness

The donation has sparked a wave of support across the sports world. Athletes and coaches from the NCAA, WNBA, and beyond have publicly praised Staley and pledged their own donations to flood relief.

“Dawn is the heart of this game,” said WNBA star Breanna Stewart. “Her leadership goes far beyond the court. She leads with love.”

UConn coach Geno Auriemma echoed the sentiment, saying, “Dawn’s always been someone who shows up when it matters most. This is what true leadership looks like.”

Focused on Humanity

As rescue and recovery efforts continue in Texas, Staley has emphasized that this moment isn’t about her — it’s about the families who’ve lost everything and the children who deserve safety and shelter.

“This isn’t charity,” she said. “It’s solidarity. These families are our neighbors — and they deserve to be treated with dignity and love.”
