Kamilla Cardoso, former South Carolina Gamecocks star and WNBA standout, has returned to Columbia with a surprise that’s as bold as her game: two ultra-luxury buses gifted to the University of South Carolina women’s basketball team.
Unveiled during a private team event on campus Wednesday morning, the buses were presented with a powerful message from Cardoso herself:
“We built this. Now we ride in style.”
Kamilla Cardoso, known not only for her dominant play in the paint but for her humility and leadership, was instrumental in the Gamecocks’ 2022 and 2024 NCAA championship runs. Since graduating and going on to make waves in the WNBA, Cardoso has remained deeply connected to her roots in Columbia.
This latest act of generosity is a testament to that bond — and to her commitment to lifting up the next generation of Gamecocks.
“This program changed my life,” Cardoso said. “Now it’s my turn to give something back that reminds these girls every day that they deserve to move like champions — because they are.”

These aren’t your average team buses. The custom-built luxury coaches, wrapped in bold Gamecocks branding and featuring Cardoso’s iconic #10, include reclining leather seating with massage functions, personal charging ports and entertainment screens, a team dining and recovery area, built-in video review stations, personalized player lockers, and a tribute wall highlighting Gamecock championship history.
Each bus has been named in honor of Cardoso’s legacy and her teammates: “The Grit” and “The Glory.”
Longtime head coach Dawn Staley was visibly emotional during the unveiling.
“Kamilla has always had a championship heart — on and off the court,” Staley said. “This isn’t just a gift, it’s a message. She’s telling every young woman on this team: you matter, you deserve the best, and you carry this legacy forward.”
Players erupted with cheers and tears when the buses were revealed. Sophomore forward Amiyah Ellis said, “I’ve never seen anything like this. Kamilla’s not just a legend — she’s family.”
Social media exploded with love for Cardoso, with hashtags like #CardosoClass, #RideLikeChamps, and #ForeverToThee trending across the country.
Kamilla Cardoso has already left her mark on the court, but this gesture cements her legacy in a new way — as a role model, leader, and true champion of the Gamecock spirit.
As one fan wrote on X: “Kamilla Cardoso gave us titles. Now she’s giving these women a ride fit for queens.”
And in her own words, as the team boarded their new ride:
“This is for every bus ride we ever took dreaming of this moment. Now we ride like we belong — because we do.”
