Angel Reese Off To Historic WNBA Start With Chicago Sky

Much of the buzz surrounding the WNBA this season has been around No. 1 overall pick Caitlin Clark, but the people who weren’t familiar with Angel Reese’s game are certainly starting to learn.

Reese, who was taken with the No. 7 pick overall was made out to be Clark’s rival during college and even entering the league, which both have denied. Instead, they are both focusing on their own teams, and also looking to boost the sport up even more as they each help contribute to record-breaking viewership numbers.

On Thursday, Reese helped lead the Chicago Sky to a victory over one of the best teams in the league in the New York Liberty, handing them their first loss of the season. Unlike other rookies who have seemingly struggled to get their sea legs under them in the WNBA, Reese has hit the ground in a full-on sprint.

In Thursday’s win she totaled 13 points and a team-high nine rebounds, which is actually better than her season average of 11.5 points and 8.5 rebounds. However, what many people may not realize is she’s doing something that no other rookie in the league is doing.

According to ESPN’s Stats and Info department and Alexa Philippou, Reese is the lone rookie this season to have 10+ points in her first three games. The NCAA national champion also became the first Sky player to start their career with three double-digit scoring games in a row. The cherry on top is that her 26 rebounds are also a franchise-best through the same time period.

Clearly the skies are the limit for Reese, and for the Sky they also have No. 3 overall pick Kamilla Cardoso healing from an injury which spells trouble for the rest of the league. Other teams may never get a rebound again when these two are finally on the court together.
